The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has today received a partial verdict from the Information and Communications Council (Chairman: Takuma OTOSHI, Chairman of IBM Japan) regarding the Technical Conditions for UWB Radar Systems using the Millimeter Band, a part of the Technical Conditions for the UWB (Ultra-wide band) Wireless System at the September 30, 2002 Information and Communications Council Inquiry No. 2008.
Background
The UWB (Ultra-wide band) wireless system is a system that performs communications by diffusing power over an extremely wide band, and through advancements in related technology in recent years to develop an environment where this technology can be used, the use of UWB wireless technology in many fields is gaining attention. The transmission rate of communications through UWB wireless systems was set to at most hundreds of Mbps as of August 2006.
Use of the millimeter band UWB Radar system makes it possible to be highly precise about the location of an object, and by placing this technology in cars it is expected to reduce the amount of traffic accident deaths. Internationally, this technology was put into effect in 2002 in the United States and 2005 in Europe.
