Purpose and Background
Digital broadcasting was first started in the three largest areas (Kanto, Chukyo and Kinki) in December 2003 and then spread to all prefectures and key stations by December 2006.
The spread of digital broadcasting has been favorable due to the activities of those involved in the promotion of digital broadcasting based on the 1st through 9th Action Plans for the Promotion of Digital Broadcasting.
However, it will be necessary to further strengthen the efforts of the various party efforts in the limited 600 days left in order to fully transfer over from analog to digital broadcasting smoothly by July 2011.
Formulation and Publication of the Action Plan
The matters and schedule which should be implemented by the related parties was formulated in the 10th Action Plan for the Promotion of Digital Broadcasting at the National Conference for the Promotion of Digital Broadcasting.
Based on the 10th Action Plan, the MIC will take the lead of broadcasters, manufacturers, local organizations and related parties in actively promoting these measures in dealing with the various issues on both the transmission and receiving end.
