The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has today received a report from NTT West concerning requests provided in Article 166 paragraph (1) of the Telecommunications Business Act (1984 Act No.86) and Article 32 of the Act concerning the Protection of Personal Information (2003 Act No.57).

The MIC will study appropriate measures based on the Telecommunications Business Act and laws for the Protection of Personal Information through a detailed investigation of the report submitted by NTT West.

Background

The MIC released a document requesting a report based on the provisions stipulated in Article 166 paragraph (1) of the Telecommunications Business Act and Article 32 of the Act concerning the Protection of Personal Information on November 18, 2009, when NTT West made an announcement concerning an apology for the inappropriate offering of customer information to some dealers.

A report was received from NTT West regarding the circumstances of the event, the cause and measures to prevent the occurrence in the future.
