Start of Deliberations concerning Technical Conditions for Mobile Communications Systems Using the 700/900MHz Band

(Start of Information and Communications Council Deliberations)

The Information and Communications Council and Information and Communications Sub-Council (Sub-Council chairman: Masao Sakaguchi, Head of the National Institute of Informatics) has today started deliberations concerning Technical Conditions for Mobile Communications Systems Using the 700/900MHz Band.

Background Surrounding the Start of Deliberations

The amount of subscribers to cellular phones and PHS phones has reached 114.28 million subscribers as of October 2009, which consists of 95.4% 3rd generation mobile communications system cellular phones (IMT-2000) and the transfer from 2nd generation to 3rd generation mobile communications systems is moving forward steadily.

Due to the development and diversification of societal and economic activities, the expectation of the further introduction of high speed and convenient mobile communications systems is large and the use of data communications through cellular phones, internet connections and video transfer is expanding.
