The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has today received a verdict from the Telecommunications Business Dispute Settlement Commission (Chairman: Sukeaki TATSUOKA, Gakushuin University Law School, Law Research Department) and requested of NTT West (CEO, Shinichi OTAKE), based on the Telecommunications Act (1984 No. 86), an improvement in the handling of information from other telecommunication carriers.

It has been recognized that NTT West committed unlawful acts which go against the Protection of Personal Information Act (2003 Act No. 57) and the Guidelines for the Protection of Personal Information for Telecommunication businesses (2004 MIC Notification No. 695), and a strict warning has been delivered in writing to the company.

A request was also made to NTT East (CEO, Tsutomu EBE) to improve the state of their operations regarding the handling of information from other telecommunication businesses.
