The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has asked NTT East (CEO, Tsutomu EBE) and NTT West (CEO, Shinichi OTAKE) for a report on the state of inspections of utility poles used by their telecommunication business, based on Paragraph (1) Article 166 of the Telecommunication Business Act (1984 Act No. 86).
Background
The role of telecommunication services in citizen’s lives has become more present in recent years and safe and reliable telecommunication equipment is integral in providing secure and stable services.
This is especially true for the installation of transmission lines in utility poles, and through the Request for the Inspection of Utility Poles Used by Telecommunication Businesses (MIC Technology Regulation No.206) dated December 8, 2006, the MIC has requested that both NTT East and NTT West, in addition to routine inspections, inspect or replace utility poles that use reinforced steel in the center and are susceptible to rust due to rain water
