Starting in May 2009, the Public Radio System Committee (Chief Investigator: Hiroyuki MORIKAWA, Professor of the University of Tokyo Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology) in the Information and Communications Technology Sub-council of the Information and Communications Council examined the technical requirements of a public broadband mobile communications system.
As the committee has now compiled a draft report (Proposed Technical Requirements for a Public Broadband Mobile Communications System), comments on it are being solicited from today until Friday, March 12, 2010.
Outline
At present, the public radio system used by police, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, etc. at the scene of a disaster and elsewhere is mainly for audio transmissions, but a mobile and reliable means of transmitting video is needed to share accurate information on disaster areas.
Under these circumstances, the Public Radio System Committee in the Information and Communications Technology Sub-council of the Information and Communications Council investigated the technical requirements for the creation of a broadband mobile communications system (public broadband mobile communications system) that can transmit video in addition to audio, has compiled the results of its investigation thus far and has finalized a draft report.
