One Million Senior Citizens and Others to be Asked About Their Preparations for Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting and Offered Guidance

With one year remaining before the migration to terrestrial digital broadcasting is complete, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will collaborate with Japan Post Service Co., Ltd. (Representative Director and President: Shinichi Nabekura) to ask senior citizens and others about their preparations for terrestrial digital broadcasting for its promotion.

1. Method of implementation

(1) Whenever there are opportunities for interaction (i.e., when delivering postal items), Japan Post Service Co., Ltd. will ask senior citizens and others, “Are you ready for terrestrial digital broadcasting?”

(2) Whenever senior citizens and others reply that they are not yet ready for terrestrial digital broadcasting, Japan Post Co., Ltd. will hand over a card (a large business card as seen in the attachment) printed with the telephone number for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting Call Center (0570-07-0101) and will urge the recipient to contact the Call Center.

(3) Where people have already consulted the Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting Call Center (and depending on the details of that consultation), support for digitization may be offered through door-to-door visits from each prefecture's Digi-Support Center (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) Television Recipient Support Center) and so on.

2. Period of activity

Japan Post Co., Ltd. will conduct this activity nation-wide in week-long stints during the one-year period (July 2010 to July 2011) in which terrestrial digital broadcasting initiatives such as events are already scheduled to take place.
(The first week-long activity will run from July 21 (Wed) to 27 (Tue). Another effort is scheduled for September.)
