From March 12 to April 12, 2010, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) appealed for proposed working themes for the FY 2010 “Project for International Expansion of Advanced ICT Business.” This is to announce that a decision on which themes to adopt has now been reached.
1. Project outline
The “Project for International Expansion of Advanced ICT Business” is designed to accelerate international expansion of three important ICT fields, as well as to promote advanced proofs-of-concept for strategic international expansion of new fields utilizing Japan's advanced ICT foundations, through implementation of the three projects listed below.
(1) Ubiquitous Alliance Project (Model Project of Three Important Fields aimed at Developing Countries)
(2) Advanced ICT Proof-of-Concept Project
(3) Project Promoting Maintenance of Rules for Beneficial Use of ICT (Special Cyber Zones)
2. Details of decision
Fifty-seven applications were received during the public appeal. Opinions on these proposals were heard from an assessment team made up of external experts (see enclosed document for list of members), and a total of 19 working themes have now been decided on (see annexed table), with 12 themes for the Ubiquitous Alliance Project, three themes for the Advanced ICT Proof-of-Concept Project, and four themes for the Project Promoting Maintenance of Rules for Beneficial Use of ICT.
3. Future schedule
This decision pertains to the adoption of working themes. Subsequently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will produce a specification document, and conduct open tendering so as to decide on the main implementation of each theme.
