On January 14, 2011, Assistant Vice-Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Tetsuo Yamakawa attended the Fifth Meeting of Japanese, Chinese and Korean Information and Communications Cabinet Ministers, which was held in Kualu Lumpur, Malaysia.
At this meeting, agreements were reached concerning new initiatives for cooperation between Japan, China and Korea in the information and communications field.
Based on results from this meeting, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will implement initiatives strengthening the cooperation between the three countries with the aim of making Asia the world's main information distribution hub.

3. Outline
The Meeting of Japanese, Chinese and Korean Information and Communications Cabinet Ministers was first held in September 2002 in Marrakech, Morocco. This Fifth Meeting was organized by Korea and was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the same venue as used for the Meeting of ASEAN Information and Communications Cabinet Ministers (separate meetings of ASEAN countries and Japan, China and Korea were also held respectively).
At this meeting, discussions were held regarding a framework for new cooperation between Japan, China and Korea to promote great flexibility and efficiency in jointly supporting the development of remarkably progressive ICT, and thereafter a reformed agreement was signed.
Furthermore, Assistant Vice-Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Tetsuo Yamakawa pointed out that hereafter of particular importance will be the three countries' cooperation in fields such as information security, research and development, personnel training, etc., as well as linking this cooperation to other countries on a multinational basis, and this point was acknowledged by all parties.
4. Implementation of bilateral talks with Korea
Together with this meeting, bilateral talks were also held with the Committee Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, in which the two parties discussed future harmonization of policy and cooperative plans, etc., in the field of information and communications.
