Second ICT Medical Care Forum to be held, with Theme of “Realizing an Advanced Medical Care Society with ICT”

―Towards further diffusion of remote medicine―

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) together with Nikkei (President & CEO: Tsuneo Kita) will hold the Second ICT Medical Care Forum, with the theme of “Realizing an Advanced Medical Care Society with ICT,” on February 15 (Tue), 2011.

1. Purpose of meeting

In Japan's rapidly aging society, there is growing anxiety concerning community medicine, particularly with regard to matters such as the shortage and increasingly uneven distribution of doctors. There are great hopes for “remote medicine” as a means of using ICT (Information and Communications Technology) to make effective utilization of limited health care resources and provide high-quality medical services to end-users, and with its implementation now under way “remote medicine” is bringing high levels of satisfaction to citizens in all parts of the country.
This Second Forum will introduce the true state of actual “remote medicine” initiatives and facilitate discussions regarding proposals for real communication using cutting-edge technology, the potential for health care clouds, and so on.
