From September 10 (Fri) to October 15 (Fri), 2010, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) conducted an appeal for proposals concerning “special white space areas,” and the Meeting for White Space Promotion has since moved ahead with its proposal selection work.
As part of the process of selecting “special white space areas,” a public hearing will be held on February 4 (Fri), 2011 so that proponents can speak directly about the details of their proposals.
1. Background and purpose
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has established “special white space areas” R&D and actual trials to promote business development as well as the systematization of services and systems making practical use of white space, and from September 10 (Fri) to October 15 (Fri) an appeal was conducted for proposals concerning R&D and actual trials to be carried out in these “special white space areas,” in response to which more than 40 proposals were submitted.
The Meeting for White Space Promotion has since moved ahead with its proposal selection work, and now as part of the process of selecting “special white space areas,” a public hearing will be held so that proponents (see attachment) can speak directly about the details of their proposals.

Persons who would like to attend this public hearing should refer to the attached documents and must apply in advance no later than 12:00 on February 2 (Wed), via fax or e-mail directed to the contact address provided below. (Please understand that the situation of the venue dictates that the number of attendees accepted may be limited.)
5. Schedule
“Special white space areas” will be selected by the Meeting for White Space Promotion based on the outcome of this public hearing.
