“Panel Discussion concerning Frequency Auctions” to be held

 

  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will hold a “Panel Discussion concerning Frequency Auctions,” chaired by State Secretary for Internal Affairs and Communications, in order to carry out studies relating to the introduction of frequency auctions in Japan.


1. Background and purpose

  On December 14, 2010, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) decided on basic policy concerning the “Path of Light” concept, which has as its objective the realization of broadband use in all households by approximately the year 2015. Within this basic policy, it was put forth that “a study facility will urgently be established and discussions will move ahead concerning new wireless systems such as 4G mobile communications systems, as well as the introduction of auctions that are implemented in foreign countries.”
  Based on this, a “Panel Discussion concerning Frequency Auctions” will be held regarding the introduction of frequency auctions in Japan, analysis of the current state of frequency auctions, and with the objective of studying challenges and specific policy when introducing frequency auctions.

4. Schedule

  The first meeting will be held from 13:30 on March 2 (Wed), 2011 at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) Deliberation Room (7th floor, Central Government Building No. 2), and a reported will be compiled around December 2011.
