Personnel Training to Contribute to Expansion of Disaster Prevention ICT in Asia-Pacific Region

  From February 28 (Mon) to March 18 (Fri), 2011, the APT* will hold training in Japan for personnel who are engaged in disaster prevention ICT across the Asia-Pacific region.
 This training will be carried out through cooperation with the relevant Japanese disaster prevention communication organizations, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), as part of the activities promoting the diffusion of disaster prevention ICT across the Asia-Pacific region.

 The APT was established in 1979 as an international organization of telecommunications specialists in the Asia-Pacific region, with the aim of ensuring balanced development of telecommunications in the region. It conducts specialist training through induction courses and seminars, regional policy coordination for standardization and radio communication, and provides solutions to regional telecommunications problems. 1. Background

 This training is based on a proposal from the Japanese side, and will see the APT train personnel who are engaged in the use of Information and Communications Technology (disaster prevention ICT) with regard to disaster prevention measures, disaster relief, damage rehabilitation works, etc. The training is implemented with the use of a special donation from Japan.
 The APT is aiming to promote the diffusion of disaster prevention ICT in accord with the Bali Declaration adopted at the November 2009 Meeting of Cabinet Ministers. This training will contribute to the above-mentioned promotion of diffusion, and at the same time it is expected to provide an opportunity for the deepening of relations between Japanese corporations that have an interest in the international expansion of disaster prevention ICT and the authorities in charge of disaster prevention communication in other countries.


2.Training outline

 Training period: February 28 (Mon) to March 18 (Fri), 2011
 Training participants: Core personnel from government agencies or public organizations concerned with disaster prevention communication in APT member-nations (participants are expected from 10 countries: Republic of India, Kingdom of Cambodia, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Kingdom of Thailand, People's Republic of China, Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, People's Republic of Bangladesh, Kingdom of Bhutan, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Union of Myanmar, and Mongolia).
