Third Japan-ASEAN Information Security Policy Meeting Scheduled

 

The "Third Japan-ASEAN Information Security Policy Meeting" (hereinafter, "Policy Meeting") will be held from March 7 (Mon) to 8 (Tue), 2011. (*1) This Policy Meeting will facilitate an exchange of ideas, etc. with the aim of strengthening international cooperation and initiatives between Japan and the ASEAN countries (*2) in the information security field, which is a foundation of socio-economic activity.


1. Purpose

  Strengthening international cooperation and initiatives between Japan and the ASEAN countries in the information security field, which is a foundation of socio-economic activity, will contribute to an increased level of information security in the region, and through this the objective will be to strengthen Japan-ASEAN relations and expand international exchange.

Date and time, etc.: March 7 (Mon) to 8 (Tue), 2011 at Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka (Tokyo)
Organizers: Cabinet Secretariat Information Security Center, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)
Speakers: Japan (Ryozo Hayashi, Professor at University of Tokyo Graduate School) and Malaysia (Maz Malek, Head of Communications Department at Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture)
Attendees: Assistant Vice-Ministers and Office Chiefs, etc. from economy-, investment- and telecommunications-related government ministries in the 10 ASEAN affiliate countries
                 Assistant Vice-Ministers from the ASEAN secretariat and Japan's Cabinet Secretariat, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)


3. Main topics of discussion (tentative)

(1) Expansion of Information and Communications Technology, and information security countermeasures
(2) Strategy in information security field
(3) Promotion of cooperation between government and people with regards to information security
(4) Promotion of public awareness
(5) Introduction of initiatives from Japanese companies, etc.

*1 The First Policy Meeting was held in Tokyo in February 2009, and the Second Policy Meeting was held in Bangkok, Thailand in March 2010.
*2 The 10 countries are: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam.
