Requests concerning NHK's Implementation of International Broadcasting in FY 2011

 

  On March 9, 2011, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council (Chairman: Hiroshi Harashima, emeritus professor at the University of Tokyo) concerning requests for the implementation of international broadcasting in FY 2011 by the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (Chairman: Masayuki Matsumoto; hereinafter referred to as the "Corporation"), and a reply was received from the Council stating its approval of these requests.
  These requests are scheduled to be made on April 1, 2011.


  1.   Article 33.1 of the Broadcast Act (1950 Law, Act No. 132) sets forth regulations enabling the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications to designate broadcasting regions, broadcast items and other necessary items, and request that the Corporation conducts international broadcasting, etc.
      Also, Article 35.1 in the same Act stipulates that the State is to bear responsibility for the cost of these actions.
  2.   On March 9, 2011, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council concerning requests for the implementation of international broadcasting in FY 2011, and a reply was received from the Council stating its approval of these requests, so this implementation will now be requested as per the enclosed document.
