Request concerning Implementation of International Broadcasting in FY 2011, and Reply from Japan Broadcasting Corporation

 

  On April 1, 2011, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted a request to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (Chairman: Masayuki Matsumoto; hereinafter referred to as the “Corporation”) for the implementation of international broadcasting in FY 2011.
  In response, a reply was received from the Corporation stating: “We will comply with the request for implementation of international radio and television broadcasting in FY 2011.


1. Article 33.1 of the Broadcast Act (1950 Law, Act No. 132) sets forth regulations enabling the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications to designate broadcasting regions, broadcast items and other necessary items, and request that the Corporation conducts international broadcasting, etc.

2. On March 9, 2011, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council concerning requests for the implementation of international broadcasting in FY 2011, and on the same day a reply was received from the Council stating its approval of these requests.

3. Having received this reply, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) was given advance notification of the contents of the March 11 request, and on April 1 the MIC submitted a request to the Corporation for the implementation of international broadcasting in FY 2011.

4. In response, a reply was received from the Corporation stating: “We will comply with the request for implementation of international radio and television broadcasting in FY 2011.”
