Information regarding Support for Migration to Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting

Apply ahead of time

 The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) is implementing support projects aimed at migration to terrestrial digital broadcasting by July 24 (Sun), 2011, including shared facility improvements and tuner support, etc.
 Since it is assumed that construction work will accumulate and may not be completed in time for the July 24 (Sun) migration, please apply ahead of time and take the following deadlines as a guide.
 Please note that due to the effects of the Eastern Japan Great Earthquake Disaster the following deadlines do not apply to Iwate Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture, and further information will provided at a later date.


1. Support for shared reception facilities, etc.

 Support is being carried out through shared reception facilities for countermeasures against reception difficulties caused by shadows of tall buildings, etc., and improvements to shared reception facilities in apartment buildings to provide support for terrestrial digital broadcasting, etc. (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) Television Recipient Support Center (Digi-Support)) (Administration: The Association for Promotion of Digital Broadcasting)
 After submitting written applications, etc., a standardized period of at least one month is required until a grant decision is made and at least one month is required for construction work. In order to receive support prior to the July 24 (Sun), 2011 analog broadcasting termination date, please submit written applications, etc. no later than May 20 (Fri).


・Support for digitalization in shadows of tall buildings (reception difficulties) and apartment buildings (see enclosed documents)
・Support for digitalization in new areas suffering poor reception (see enclosed documents)
・Recipient support through digital interference countermeasures in digitalization (see enclosed documents)


 If you would like to utilize a free consultation with an attorney (Digi-Support lawyer consultation) prior to applying for subsidies for digitalization in the shadows of tall buildings (where there are reception difficulties), please consult your local Digit-Support as soon as possible.

2. Support through terrestrial digital broadcasting tuners, etc. for low-income households

 By way of support for digitalization aimed to those who are still unable to receive terrestrial digital broadcasting for economic reasons, support is being carried out through simple tuners and antenna construction work, etc. for households that are exempt from paying full NHK license fees, and simple tuners and telephone support for persons in households that are exempt from municipal tax.  Taking into account the accumulation of applications, it is necessary to expect waits from the submission of written applications, etc. until inspections are completed, grant decisions are made and support is provided, of around two months when construction work is necessary and approximately one month for direct delivery of simple tuners.
 In order to receive support prior to the July 24 (Sun), 2011 analog broadcasting termination date, please submit written applications, etc. as follows.


1) Support for households exempt from paying full NHK license fees: no later than May 20 (Fri)
2) Support for households exempt from municipal tax: no later than June 20 (Mon)

3. Support for temporary satellite countermeasures (satellite safety net)

 A project for temporary countermeasures against poor reception is being implemented to ensure that those who were able to view analog broadcasting do not become unable to view television. (Administration: The Association for Promotion of Digital Broadcasting)
 Areas covered by this project are published in the “Satellite Broadcasting Target List (White List) for Countermeasures Against Poor Reception of Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting,” and users who apply will be able to view satellite broadcasting (terrestrial digital broadcasting programs from NHK and key stations in Tokyo). There will also be support for minimum facility maintenance necessary for reception of satellite broadcasting, based on certain terms (see enclosed documents). At least around one month will be required for this construction work.
 In order to receive support prior to the July 24 (Sun), 2011 analog broadcasting termination date, please submit written applications, etc. as soon as possible. Also, since you may be covered by this project by means of a Digi-Support call if viewing is still not possible after terrestrial digital broadcast antenna construction work has been implemented, please contact Digi-Support ahead of time.
