Info-Communications Promotion Month to be Held in FY 2011

Digital and optical links – bringing people together

  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and The Council for Info-Communications Promotion Month* will implement “Info-Communications Promotion Month” from May 15 (Sun) until June 15 (Wed), 2011, comprising ICT-related events in each region of Japan, with the aim of further diffusing and promoting information communications.
  These events are designed to help citizens of Japan to understand the vital role played by information and communications in building a society in which people can live with peace of mind.


*The Council for Info-Communications Promotion Month: An organization formed from private information communications-related groups, established at the time of the April 1985 information communications system reforms with the aim of further diffusing and promoting information communications.


1. This year's theme

  Digital and optical links – bringing people together

Concept:
  This year's theme expresses the notion of “energizing Japan with power generated through new regional 'links' (communications) by accelerating beneficial use of ICT, together with the expansion of optical broadband and the migration to terrestrial digital broadcasting.”


2. Events

  During this month, approximately 250 events will be held around Japan. Examples of participating events are given below. For the complete list of events participating in the FY 2011 Info-Communications Promotion Month, please visit the official website (http://jtgkn.com/).

Examples of events to be held in each region


(1)   Event name: Seminar on Personal Information Protection in Telecommunications Business Field
Date: May 19 (Thu)
Venue: Sapporo Aspen Hotel (Sapporo-shi, Hokkaido)
Details: A seminar (free admission) to clarify challenges relating to personal information protection in the telecommunications business field, and promoting the suitable handling of personal information.

(2)   Event name: 14th Akita Prefectural Senior High School ARDF Convention (Amateur Radio Direction Search)
Date: June 4 (Sat)
Venue: Akita Prefectural Central Park (Akita-shi, Akita-ken)
Details: Competition using 144MHz VHF band receivers to search for radio waves.

(3)   Event name: Seminar Promoting Beneficial Use of ICT in Kanto
Date: June 17 (Fri)
Venue: Conference Room, 11th Floor, Kanto Bureau of Telecommunications, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo-to)
Details: Exhibition (free admission) comprising keynote lecture and introduction of examples of beneficial use of ICT aimed at promoting beneficial use of ICT.

(4)   Event name: The Niigata Way – What is the Secret to Healthy and Happy Life? Seminar on Beneficial Use of Regional ICT
Date: May 19 (Thu)
Venue: Niigata City Music Culture Assembly Hall (Chuo-ku, Niigata-shi, Niigata-ken)
Details: A seminar (free admission) on beneficial use of regional ICT, introducing enjoyably-presented advanced examples of initiatives building health through the installation of ICT.

(5)   Event name: Lecture and Exhibition of Equipment on Disaster Protection through Information Communications
Date: June 21 (Tue)
Venue: Ishikawa Hitech Exchange Center (Noumi-shi, Ishikawa-ken)
Details: A lecture (free admission) on lessons to be drawn from the Eastern Japan Great Earthquake Disaster and the state of information transmitted to regional residents in times of emergency/disaster, as well as an exhibition of the latest information communication systems equipment.

(6)   Event name: Information and Communications Seminar 2011 – Latest Trends in Radio Wave Policy
Date: June 28 (Tue)
Venue: Hotel Nagoya Garden Palace (Naka-ku, Nagoya-shi, Aichi-ken)
Details: A seminar (free admission) on the current state of radio wave policies such as white spaces, frequency auctions, etc. and future utilization of radio waves, as well as consideration of the practical use of radio waves in area One-Seg, etc. in times of emergency/disaster.

(7)   Event name: Telecommunication Carriers' Seminar
Date: June 22 (Wed)
Venue: 20th floor, Crystal Tower, Conference Room A, (Chuo-ku, Osaka-shi, Osaka-fu)
Details: Lecture (free admission): “Initiatives and Challenges in Protection of Personal Information by Telecommunications Carriers” (title tentative)

(8)   Event name: Ubiquitous Forum '11.06
Date: June 17 (Fri)
Venue: Hiroshima YMCA International Culture Hall (Hiroshima-shi, Hiroshima-ken)
Details: A lecture (free admission) introducing frequency protection for implementation of the world's most advanced wireless broadband environment; the latest radio wave policy trends such as the introduction of frequency auction systems, etc.; and construction of wireless systems to verify the safety of victims in times of emergency/disaster and ascertain the condition of buildings, etc.

(9)   Event name: Ehime IT Fair 2011  Mock Future School Lessons
Date: June 24 (Fri) to 25 (Sat)
Venue: Item Ehime (Matsuyama-shi, Ehime-ken)
Details: As schools are being changed completely by the diffusion of electronic blackboards, this event provides hands-on experience (free admission) of the future of schooling through beneficial use of ICT.

(10)   Event name: Exhibition of U-stream Distribution of Independently-Produced Programs and Information Communication Equipment Demonstrations
Date: June 20 (Mon) to 24 (Fri)
Venue: Wadomari-cho Public Office (Wadomari-cho, Oshima-gun, Kagoshima-ken)
Details: Net distribution of independently-produced programs through U-stream, and exhibition (free admission) of demonstrations using watching systems such as IP cameras, etc.

(11)   Event name: Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency  Okinawa Space Communications Center  General Exhibit of Facilities
Date: June 14 (Sat)
Venue: Okinawa Space Communications Center (Onna-son, Okinawa-ken)
Details: Various events planned (free admission), including exhibition of man-made satellites and rockets, showing of videos concerning space development, hands-on experience of astronautical clothes fitting, badge production, etc.
