Official Announcement of “Commission on Approaches to ICT Global Expansion”

 The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has opened the “Commission on Approaches to ICT Global Expansion” (Chairman: Motoyuki Oka, President & CEO of Sumitomo Corporation) to consider specific policy development for the global expansion of excellent Japanese ICT (Information and Communications Technology). This official announcement details the written report that has now been compiled by the Commission.


1. Background and purpose

 Due to Japan's low birth rate and rapidly aging society, as well as anticipated degeneration of the domestic market, there is a need to aim for conversion to ICT industries, which have propelled global market growth.

 In view of these current circumstances the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has opened this Commission to consider specific policy development for the global expansion of excellent Japanese ICT.

 This announcement details a written report compiled by the Commission concerning specific policy for the global expansion of ICT due to the need for global expansion taking in the growth potential of emerging markets such as Asia, where economic growth and market expansion are continuing. This comes in the wake of the Eastern Japan Great Earthquake Disaster of March 11, 2011, and fears regarding “industrial hollowing out” due to production bases moving overseas and the entry of competitive foreign businesses, etc., and is in intended to revive disaster-affected areas as well as the Japanese economy.

 Based on this report, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will work to promote policy towards global expansion of Japanese ICT.
