State of Telephone Number Usage (Current as of End of FY 2010)

  This is to announce that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has compiled a report on the state of telephone number usage* as of the end of FY 2010, including changes from the previous year and utilization rate (hereinafter, “state of usage, etc.”).


  Telecommunications numbers are offered through telecommunications services and serve to indicate the receiver's line/terminal every time a phone call is made, or are used as numbers by which end-users can easily identify types or contents of various services.
  This is to announce that a report on the state of usage of telecommunications numbers as of the end of FY 2010 (March 31, 2011) has now been compiled using reports received from telecommunications carriers, based on article 8 of Rules for Reporting on telecommunications business (1988 Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications Order No. 46).
  Reports on the state of usage have been published annually since FY 2004 - this is the seventh annual report.


Described below are changes from FY 2009 in terms of the quantity of main telecommunications numbers in use.

· 0AB~J numbers for landline phone use Approx. Decrease of 1.124 million numbers (Approximately 69.424 million numbers in use)
·050 numbers for IP phone use Approx. Decrease of 751,000 numbers (Approximately 7.910 million numbers in use)
·070 numbers for PHS use Approx. Decrease of 395,000 numbers (Approximately 3.808 million numbers in use)
·080/090 numbers for mobile phone use Approx. Increase of 7.577 million numbers (Approximately 120.324 million numbers in use)

*State of usage refers to the state of numbers actually supplied by telecommunications carriers to their subscribers, as per the numbers designated to telecommunications carriers by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC).
