The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) is considering revising telephone area codes in certain areas of Okayama Prefecture, Okayama City and Kumenan-cho.
Accordingly, an appeal for opinions on a bulletin plan for partial revision of the item establishing the particulars of telecommunications number regulations will be held from September 10 (Sat) to October 11 (Tue), 2011.
1. Purpose of revision
The item establishing the particulars of telecommunications number regulations (1997 Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications Bulletin No. 574) will be partially revised in order to unify the telephone number divisions* of Okayama Prefecture, Okayama City (excluding Minami-ku Uematsu, Nishiune and Mishima) and Kumenan-cho.
* Divisions denoting the range in which local calls can be made. Telephones in regions using the same number divisions can dial from local office numbers.
2. Outline of reform proposal
Telephone number divisions for certain areas of Okayama City (the former Mitsu-cho, Takebe-cho, Seto-cho and Nadasaki-cho) and Kumenan-cho in Annexed Table No. 1 of the item establishing the particulars of telecommunications number regulations will be modified.
This reform will make it possible to dial from local office numbers when calling within the same area in the whole of Okayama City (excluding Minami-ku Uematsu, Nishiune and Mishima) and Kumenan-cho.

This reform proposal will be published in the “Reports and documents” area of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) website as well as in the “Public comments” section of the e-Gov coordinated electronic government website, and will be distributed at the point of contact provided at the end of this document.

4. Schedule
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will promptly carry out partial revision of this bulletin based on results from the appeal for opinions.
