From September 14 (Wed) to October 13 (Thu), 2011, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will conduct a broad appeal for opinions on the third interim report (draft) and environment cloud service construction/application guidelines (draft) compiled by the “Research Society concerning Faster Utilization through IPv6” (Chairman: Tadao Saito, emeritus professor at University of Tokyo).
Background
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has opened the “Research Society concerning Faster Utilization through IPv6” since February 27, 2009 in order to study policy promoting smooth support for IPv6 (see note 1).
The third interim report (draft) from this Research Society has been compiled on the back of exhaustion of the IPv4 (see note 2) address inventories of APNIC (which distributes IP addresses in the Asia-Pacific region) and JPNIC (which controls IP addresses for Japan), and ISPs' increased supply of IPv6 Internet connection services. In addition, the Research Society has compiled cloud service construction/application guidelines (draft) to promote the development of environment cloud services, which are expected to use IPv6 technology.
Accordingly, there will be a broad appeal for opinions on the third interim report (draft) and environment cloud service construction/application guidelines (draft).
Note 1: IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6): The successor to the IPv4 standard, with a practically infinite number of IP addresses (3.4 x 1,038). Compared with IPv4 its features include enhanced security, simplification of all options, and so on.
Note 2: IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4): This communication system is utilized as the main basic technology behind the Internet. IP addresses refer to numerals used to identify computers, etc. connected to networks. Approximately 4.3 billion IP addresses can be allocated using IPv4.
Outline of appeal for opinions
Subjects of appeal for opinions: Third Interim Report (Draft) from “Study Group on Advanced Use of Internet with IPv6”
Environment Cloud Service Construction/Application Guidelines (Draft)
Deadline for submission of opinions: 17:00 on October 13 (Thu), 2011
(mailed submissions must also arrive by this date)
Please note that the subjects of the appeal for opinions will be published in the “Reports and documents” area of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) website (http://www.soumu.go.jp) and in the “Public comment” section of e-Gov (http://www.e-gov.go.jp), the electronic coordinated government contact website.
