Authorization of Key Terrestrial Broadcasting Business for Mobile Reception carrying out V-High Multimedia Broadcasting

  On October 12, 2011, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council (Chairman: Hiroshi Harashima, emeritus professor at The University of Tokyo) concerning authorization of a key terrestrial broadcasting business for mobile reception carrying out broadcasting using frequencies between 207.5MHz and 222MHz (hereinafter, “V-High multimedia broadcasting), and on the same date a reply was received from the Council stating its approval of the authorization.


1. Background

 On July 28, 2011, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) carried out system maintenance relating to the authorization of key terrestrial broadcasting businesses for mobile reception carrying out V-High multimedia broadcasting. The MIC subsequently accepted requests for the authorization of key terrestrial broadcasting businesses for mobile reception carrying out V-High multimedia broadcasting from August 3 to September 2, 2011, in response to which a request for authorization (13 segments) was received from mmbi, Inc.


2. Outline of authorization

Name of key broadcasting business: mmbi, Inc. (CEO & President: Harunari Futatsugi)
Frequencies to be used: Central frequency 216MHz, 13 segments
Type of key broadcasting: Key terrestrial broadcasting for mobile reception (digital broadcasting using frequencies between 207.5MHz and 222MHz) – multimedia broadcasting
Regions covered by broadcasting: Nation-wide
Scheduled date for commencement of business: April 1, 2012


3. Schedule

  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will promptly issue an authorization certificate based on the reply from the Radio Regulatory Council.
