Results of the Election for the Secretary General of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT)

Re-election of the incumbent Secretary General, Mr. Toshiyuki Yamada

 The 12th Session of the General Assembly of the APT was held from November 16 to 18, 2011, in Jeju, the Republic of Korea, and the Secretary General for the next term was elected on November 17.
 The candidates for the election for the Secretary General were the incumbent Secretary General, Mr. Toshiyuki Yamada from Japan, and Dr. Kyu-Jin Wee from the Republic of Korea. After the voting by the Member countries, Mr. Toshiyuki Yamada held the majority with 28 votes and was consequently re-elected as the Secretary General.

1. Number of delegations attending the GA and entitled to vote: 35
2. Number of votes cast: 37 (invalid: 1; abstentions: 0)
3. Number of absent Member countries: 3

Elected candidate: Mr. Toshiyuki Yamada (Japan) – 28 votes
             Dr. Kyu-Jin Wee (Republic of Korea) – 8 votes

*Mr. Toshiyuki Yamada will serve as the APT Secretary General for a second term, spanning three years from February 9, 2012, until February 8, 2015.

For the reference

In the election of the Deputy Secretary General, which was followed by the election of the Secretary General, the incumbent Deputy Secretary General Kraisorn Pornsutee from Thailand was re-elected.

*Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT):
 An international organization established in 1979 which specializes in telecommunications in the Asia-Pacific region. The head office of the APT is in Bangkok, Thailand. The APT conducts capacity building through training and seminars, as well as regional policy coordination for standardization and radio communications to realize the balanced development of telecommunications in the region.
