On January 18, 2012, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council (Chairman: Tadaaki Maeda, Adviser to Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd.) concerning approval of an application received from Japan Broadcasting Corporation (Chairman: Masayuki Matsumoto; hereinafter referred to as the “NHK”) for modification of the standard of work in Article 20, Item 2, Clause 2 of the Broadcast Act, and a reply was received from the Council stating that this should be approved.
In view of this reply, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has approved this matter as of January 18, 2012.
At present, NHK is running its NHK on-demand service, etc. based on the standard of work (hereinafter, “implementation standard”) in Article 20, Item 2, Clause 2 of the Broadcast Act. However, on October 27, 2011 an application was received from NHK for modification of this standard.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) compiled its views on the application received from NHK and subsequently held an appeal for opinions from November 26 to December 26, 2011. Based on the results of that appeal, an inquiry was submitted to the Radio Regulatory Council on January 18, 2012, and a reply was received from the Council stating that this should be approved.
In view of this reply, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has approved this matter as of January 18, 2012.
