As of the end of December 2011, the total number of subscription phone and ISDN contracts stands at 36,814,000, showing an 8.9% decrease over the same period last year and indicating an ongoing trend for decline. The total number of subscription phone and ISDN contracts held by NTT East and West stands at 32,083,000, also indicating an ongoing trend for decline.
As of the end of December 2011, the total number of IP phones in use stands at 27,772,000, showing a 10.7% increase over the same period last year and indicating an ongoing trend for increase.
Particularly remarkable is the expansion of the number of 0AB-J-IP phones in use, which shows an increase of 18.4% over the same period last year.
As of the end of December 2011, the total number of mobile phone and PHS subscribers stands at 129,868,000, showing a 7.6% increase over the same period last year and indicating an ongoing trend for increase. In addition, the rate of diffusion of mobile phones and PHS among the population has exceeded 100%, reaching 101.4%.
