On March 1, 2012, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received a reply from the Information and Communications Council (Chairman: Takuma Otoshi, Chairman of IBM Japan) concerning the state of systems, etc. relating to telecommunications numbers for expansion of the number of telephone numbers for mobile telephones (inquiry no. 1215; dated May 25, 2011).
1. Background, etc.
On May 25, 2011, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry to the Information and Communications Council concerning “the state of systems, etc. relating to telecommunications numbers for expansion of the number of telephone numbers for mobile telephones.”This reply is based on subsequent study and deliberation atTelecommunications Business Policy Committeeand Telecommunications Number Policy Subcommittee, together with results from the public appeal for opinions held by the Council from December 23, 2011 to January 23, 2012.
2. Schedule
Based on this reply, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will take the necessary measures, including revising the relevant laws and ordinances, etc.
