
Requests concerning NHK's Implementation of International Broadcasting in FY 2012
On March 14, 2012, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council (Chairman: Tadaaki Maeda, Adviser to Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd.) concerning requests for the implementation of international broadcasting in FY 2011 by the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (Chairman: Masayuki Matsumoto; hereinafter referred to as the “Corporation”), and a reply was received from the Council stating its approval of these requests.
These requests are scheduled to be made on April 1, 2012.
1. Article 65.1 of the Broadcast Act (1950 Law, Act No. 132) sets forth regulations enabling the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications to designate broadcasting regions, broadcast items and other necessary items, and request that the Corporation conducts international broadcasting, etc.
Also, Article 67.1 in the same Act stipulates that the State is to bear responsibility for the cost of these actions.
