“Overseas Content Expansion Conference” to be Initiated

1. Background and purpose

　The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) opened the “Panel Discussion Towards Strengthening Innovative Digital Content Resources” (chaired by the State Secretary for Internal Affairs and Communications) in February 2011, which then studied various policies for the production and distribution of content, also dealing with last year's technological progress, etc., an interim report was compiled in July 2011.
　Having received the above-mentioned report, it has been decided that this Conference will be initiated with Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. as its secretariat, for the purpose of promoting initiatives between the government and people in relation to various challenges toward promoting the overseas expansion of Japanese content.

2. Main contents of initiative

Market surveys for each country/content genre
Investigation of examples of initiatives in foreign countries
Study of challenges and policies toward overseas expansion of Japanese content (smoothening rights processing and dealing with illegal content, etc.)
Study of how to cooperate with other related industries, etc.

3. Opening period

　The first meeting will be held on March 26 (Mon), 2012, and the Conference will be kept open for approximately one year.

4. Points to remember

　As a general rule, this Conference is private and only an outline of proceedings will be officially announced.
