“Appeal for Opinions on State of “New Town Development Models utilizing ICT”
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will hold an appeal for opinions on images of realization, expected effects, etc. of “new town development models utilizing ICT” to contribute to deliberations at “Commission on Town Development utilizing ICT and Global Expansion”.
1.Background, etc.
The MIC has held “Commission on Town Development utilizing ICT and Global Expansion” (Chairman: Motoyuki Oka, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sumitomo Corporation) from December 2012 in order to deliberate on the state of new town development models ICT, measures for promotion toward its realization and for global expansion of new town development models utilizing ICT (hereinafter referred to as “ICT town development models”) with a view to develop new cities utilizing ICT and contribute to reconstruction and revitalization of Japan from the Great East Japan Earthquake.
At the third meeting which was held recently, the following six models were deliberated as new town development models utilizing ICT which must be realized in Japan by 2015 based on the “basic ideas on new town development utilizing ICT” deliberated at the second meeting of this Commission.
(1) Town development to deepen bonds by activating communities;
(2) Town development to enhance the appeal by creating new services;
(3) Town development to support the public by cooperation between the private and public sectors;
(4) Town development to create employment by creating new industries;
(5) Sustainable town development by optimizing the management of urban infrastructure; and
(6) Town development by joint creation with local residents
The MIC has decided to hold an appeal for opinions on images of realization, expected effects, etc. of the above-mentioned “ICT town development models” to contribute to deliberations at Commission which will be held in the future.
