Info-Communication Promotion Month to be Held in FY2012

Safe, secure and smart life using ICT
  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications(MIC) and The Council for Info-Communications Promotion Month will implement “Info-Communications Promotion Month” from May 15 (Tue) to June 15 (Fri), 2012. Comprising ICT-related events in each region of Japan, with the aiming of further diffusing and promoting information communication. These events are designed to help citizens of Japan to understand the vital role played by information and communications in building a society in which people can live rich and secure.

1.Theme of this fiscal year

  “Safe, secure and smart life using ICT”
  People can realize safe, secure and smart communications by taking advantage of ICT even at the time of unexpected disaster. This theme transmits an image of efforts for effectively utilizing ICT in our life in the time when the importance and diversity of “information” is increasing.
 

2.Outline of events

  During this promotion month, about 270 events are held nationwide. The following are some examples of participating events. You are able to view the list of participating events of on the official website. However, the content of event, etc. is subject to change.

Name of event: ICT Seminar by Collaboration between Hokkaido and Tohoku
Date: June 20 (Wed), 2012
Place: Auditorium, 1st Sapporo Government Building 2F (Sapporo City, Hokkaido)
Content: This seminar is held for local public bodies and citizens with the view to share knowledge concerning information and communications, know-how of recovery, issues, etc. obtained from the Great East Japan Earthquake in Hokkaido and use them to prevent and alleviate disasters (entrance free)

Name of event: ICT Promotion Fair 2012 in Tohoku
Date: June 27 (Wed), 2012
Place: Sendai Mediatheque (Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture)
Content: A seminar for local reconstruction and revitalization and related exhibitions are held under the theme of solution of local issues and disaster-resilient town development through use and utilization of ICT (entrance free)

Name of event: Seminar for Promotion of Use and Utilization of ICT
Date: June 20 (Wed), 2012
Place: Conference room, Kudan 3rd Government Building 11F (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo)
Content: A keynote address to promote use and utilization of ICT is given and cases of use and utilization of ICT are introduced and exhibited (entrance free)

Name of event: Seminar for Use and Utilization of Broadband
Date: June 14 (Thu), 2012
Place: Chisun Hotel Niigata (Chuo-ku, Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture)
Content: This seminar is for local residents, local public bodies and companies to promote the spread of development of Broadband and its use and utilization (entrance free)

Name of event: “Hokuriku ICT Channel” Series (1) to create the future from Hokuriku
Date: May 15 (Tue) to June 15 (Fri), 2012
Place: Internet distribution
Content: Hokuriku ICT Channel is a program distributed through the Internet which introduces and explains policies and efforts of the Hokuriku Regional Bureau of Telecommunications and a variety of examples and projects in Tohoku in an easily-understandable manner. During the period of Telecom Fair when a program is distributed for the first time, “Minamisoma Channel” which links disaster victims and their home is featured to transmit the determination to realize “East Japan Reconstruction Channel” and solicit support and cooperation mainly by introducing messages sent from parties concerned.

Date: June 4 (Mon), 2012
Place: Hotel Nagoya Garden Palace (Naka-ku, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture)
Content: This seminar is held to predict the future of cloud computing service and look for a possibility of new ICT industries and businesses which link and integrate cloud and smart phones (entrance free)

Name of event: Lectures on communications of disaster-prevention information “Measures for Damages of Tsunami Caused by Great Earthquake Expected to Occur in Nankai Trough”
Date: May 15 (Tue), 2012
Place: KKR Hotel Osaka (Chuo-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture)
Content: Lectures on how we should prepare for damages of tsunami will be given in response to the estimated results that there are areas hit by a tsunami of more than 20 meters in a wide range from the islands of Tokyo to Shikoku (entrance free, prior application is required)

Name of event: Seminar for Safe and Secure Internet: Countermeasures against Child Pornography and Efforts for Protection of Personal Information
Date: May 23 (Wed), 2012
Content: Mielparque Hiroshima (Naka-ku, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture)
Content: Proper handling of personal information, measures for safety management, response and management method, countermeasures against child pornography on the Internet are explained (entrance free)

Name of event: Ehime IT Fair 2012
Date: June 29 (Fri) ~ June 30 (Sat), 2012
Place: Item Ehime (Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture)
Content: Different types of equipment related to information and communications is displayed and demonstrated and visitors can closely experience the state of ICT and examples of its use and utilization by participating in the test ride of electric vehicle and experiencing the operation of robots (entrance free)

Name of event: Japan-Korea Senior Internet Forum in Saga
Date: May 24 (Thu), 2012
Place: Forester Fuji (Fuji Town, Saga City, Saga Prefecture)
Content: Japan-Korea Senior Internet Forum to consider travel of seniors which is changed by ICT, an introductory seminar for iPad and smart phones and lectures by specialists of electric administration will be given (entrance free)

Name of event: Ubiquitous Lecture
Date: June 26 (Tue), 2012
Place: Harborview Hotel (Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture)
Content: A seminar on testing which supports advanced information and communications in the age of android and current state of frequency policy such as white space (provisional) (entrance free)
