State of Number of Subscriptions of Telecommunications Services

As of the end of March 2012
  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has compiled the number of subscriptions of telecommunications services, etc. reported from telecommunications carriers as of the end of March 2012 based on the provision of the Rules for Reporting on Telecommunications Business (Ministerial Ordinance of MPT No. 46 of 1988).

  The outline is as follows.
 

1.Subscribed telephone and ISDN

  The total number of subscriptions of subscribed telephone and ISDN has been on a downward trend and was 35.953 million as of the end of March 2012. This is a 9.1% decrease compared with the same period the previous year. The total number of subscriptions of subscribed telephone and ISDN of NTT East and West was 31.345 million and has been on a downward trend. 
 

2.Number of IP phone uses

  The number of IP phone uses was 28.484 million as of the end of March, 2012, and it has been on an upward trend. It marked an increase of 10.4% compared with the same period the previous year.
  Particularly, the number of uses of 0AB~J-IP phone marked a significant increase of 17.1% compared with the same period the previous year.
 

3.Mobile phone and PHS

  The total number of subscriptions of mobile phone and PHS was 132.761 million as of the end of March 2012 and this is a steady increase of 7.7% compared with the same period the previous year. The dissemination rate of mobile phones has become over 100% and reached 100.1%.
