Press Release

May 25, 2012

Results of Appeal for Opinions on Draft Review of Classifications of Purposes and Communication Matters related to Radio Station License Application, etc.

From March 31 to May 1, 2012, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) held an appeal for opinions on a draft review of the classifications of purposes of radio stations and communication matters which need to be described in radio station matter documents attached to radio station license applications, etc.. Five opinions were submitted to this appeal for opinions and they are officially announced herein.

1.Background, etc.

Radio station license applications shall describe purposes, communications matters, etc. to ensure fair and efficient use of radio waves.
As radio stations are used for various purposes, they are efficiently supervised and managed by the description of their purposes and communications matters in radio station license applications by a licensee.
However, as there are opinions that the classifications of purposes and communication matters are too complicated, these classifications will be revised within the range that the supervision and management of radio stations are not affected.

2.Future plans

The MIC will compile a draft revision of related rules based on the opinions submitted and will consolidate related rules after holding a repeat appeal for opinions.
