Draft Ministerial Ordinance for Partial Revision of the Regulations for Telecommunications Numbers
Report from the Information and Communications and Posts Administrative Council
On May 29, 2012, the Ministry for Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received from the Information and Communications and Posts Administrative Council (Chairman: Atsushi Takahashi, Advisor to Sumitomo Trust Bank) a report stating its approval of the revision as inquired concerning the “partial revision of the Regulations for Telecommunications Numbers” (Inquiry No.3042 of March 29, 2012). The MIC will swiftly revise the Regulations for Telecommunications Numbers (Ministerial Ordinance of MPT No. 82 of 1997) based on this report.
1.Background, etc.
On March 29, 2012, the MIC submitted an inquiry to the Information and Communications and Posts Administrative Council concerning the “partial revision of the Regulations for Telecommunications Numbers,” as the report from the Information and Communications Council dated March 1, 2012 titled “state of system, etc. related to telecommunications numbers toward the expansion of mobile phone numbers” approved that “it is appropriate to permit the designation of phone numbers by indirect connections through networks of one business operator.
After the Council had deliberated on the inquiry, an appeal for opinions was held from March 30 to May 1, 2012, and a report from the Council was compiled on May 29, 2012.
2.Future plans
The MIC will swiftly revise the Regulations for Telecommunications Numbers based on this report.
