Authorization of NHK’s “Business to Provide the Public with Live Relay Videos of Some Sports pertaining to the London Olympic Games through the Internet”

Authorization of the business prescribed in Article 20, Paragraph 2, Item (viii) of the Broadcast Act
  On June 13, 2012, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council (Chairman: Tadaaki Maeda, Adviser to Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd.) concerning an authorization of the “business to provide the public with live relay videos of some sports pertaining to the London Olympic Games through the Internet” applied by NHK (President: Masayuki Matsumoto), and a report was received from the Council stating its approval. In response to this report, the MIC authorizes this matter as of June 13, 2012.

  On April 24, 2012, NHK has applied an authorization of the “business to provide the public with live relay videos of some sports pertaining to the London Olympic Games through the Internet” as a business prescribed in Article 20, Paragraph 2, Item (viii) of the Broadcast Act (Act No.132 of 1950) pursuant to the provision of Article 20, Paragraph 10 of said Act. The MIC has compiled its views on the application for authorization from NHK and held an appeal for opinions on it from May 3 to June 1, 2012. Then, the MIC submitted an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council on June 13, 2012 concerning its authorization as applied based on the results of the appeal for opinions, and a report was received from the Council stating its approval.
  In response to this report, the MIC authorizes this matter as of June 13, 2012.
