Results of ICT Policy Dialogue with Singapore

  On June 20, 2012, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Info-communications Development Authority of Singapore held the first high-level policy dialogue (in Singapore) to exchange opinions on a wide range of policy issues from a perspective of reinforcing cooperative relations between Japan and Singapore in the field of ICT. In addition, on the same day, the both government agencies signed a memorandum stating the reinforcement of comprehensive cooperative relations before the policy dialogue.

  3. Major attendees
  (1) Japan (MIC): Mr. Tetsuo Yamakawa, Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination (International Affairs), Mr. Hironobu Yumoto, Director of the International Cooperation Division, Global ICT Strategy Bureau, et al.
  (2) Singapore (Info-communications Development Authority of Singapore): Mr. Ronnie Tay, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Leong Keng Thai, Deputy Chief Executive, et al.

  4. Major results
  - The two countries exchanged opinions on advanced use and utilization of ICT in the fields of medical care and education, switching over to IPv6, cooperation for realization of the ASEAN Smart Network Initiative, efforts at APEC and policy issues related to the Internet.
  - As a result, the two countries agreed to continue to exchange information and opinions on efforts to be made in the future and to work together to address common policy issues faced by the two countries including at places of international discussion.
  - The two countries have decided to hold the next policy dialogue in Japan and to separately arrange details such as its schedule and minute.

  5. Outline of memorandum
  - The policy dialogue will be held on a regular basis.
  - The relationship of the private sector of the two countries will be developed and reinforced in the field of ICT.
  - Cooperation by the participation of speakers in major workshops, etc. held in the both countries

  6. Others
  - The network session was held with the participation of ICT companies of Japan and Singapore to promote exchanges along with this policy dialogue in view of partnership of those companies.
