
Decision on Issue of “Research and Development of Technology for Bridging Digital Divide” in FY2012
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has decided “Research and Development of Technology Project for Bridging the Digital Divide” (subsidies project for costs support for the promotion of use of information and telecommunications) in FY2012.
1.Outline of project
This project has been implemented from FY1997 for the purpose of enhancing communication and broadcasting services for the elderly and the challenged by partially subsidizing R&D funds of private enterprises, etc. which carry out R&D relating to upgrading of communication and broadcasting services for the elderly and the challenged or those which have not been implemented so in the past.
(Note) From FY1997 to FY2011, it was carried out by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology as a “subsidized-project for R&D of enhancement of communication and broadcasting services for the elderly and the challenged.”
2.Number of applications submitted and adopted
A public appeal for projects in FY2012 was held from April 20 (Fri) to May 21 (Mon), 2012, to which seven applications were submitted. Among them, five applications were adopted through assessments by a review meeting consisting of outside experts.
