Results of Survey on Actual Status of Industrial Structure of Mobile Contents
Since 2003, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has conducted the survey on trends of the mobile business market which is expanding due to the widespread dissemination of mobile phones and smart phones, high-end and high-speed terminals, change of communications fee systems, etc. in recent years. The results of the 2011 survey have been compiled and they are officially announced herein.
1.Results of survey
The mobile content (feature phone) market in 2011 was 653.9 billion yen (up 1.1% over the previous year). The mobile content market (smart phone) which has been added to the survey subjects from this survey was 80.6 billion yen. The mobile commerce market was 1171.6 billion yen (up 16.2% over the previous year).
2.Calculation method
(1) Mobile contents market
- Feature phone It is estimated using data, etc. of mobile-phone carriers.
- Smart phone It is estimated using data of mobile-phone carriers and major content business operators, questionnaire surveys of users and data of the number of smart phones
(2) Mobile commerce market
It is estimated based on results of hearings targeting major business operators and organizations that engage in the mail-order market using mobile sites.
3.Contractor of survey
This survey was conducted by the Mobile Content Forum (MCF) based on entrustment from the MIC (http://www.mcf.to/).
*Mobile Content Forum (MCF)
MCF was established in 1999 with the participation of companies such as communications carriers, makers and content providers with the aim of revitalizing mobile content environments. MCF was changed to a general incorporated association in 2009 (the number of its members as of June 2012: 212 companies).
