Establishment of “Open Data Promotion Consortium”

  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has promoted an “open data strategy” toward environmental improvement where data which is used and utilized in each field only in a closed manner can be effectively used and utilized in society in collaboration with related agencies and ministries.
  On July 27, 2012, the “Open Data Promotion Consortium” was established as a base of joint efforts made by academic, industrial and governmental entities for the purpose of improving an environment for promoting open data trading.

1.Promotion of “open data strategy”

  The MIC has promoted the open data strategy in collaboration with related agencies and ministries for the purpose of improving an environment where data which is used and utilized in each field only in a closed manner can be effectively used and utilized in society (open data environment). It is expected that this strategy helps creative new industries and services to be created and promoted by linking valuable data and facilitates the acquisition of useful information for the public and industries such as related information on disaster prevention and disaster reduction and diverse statistical information.
  The open data strategy is also mentioned in the “Roadmap to New ICT Strategy (revised by the Strategic Headquarters for the Promotion of an Advanced Information and Telecommunications Network Society on July 4, 2012)” and the “E-administration Open Data Strategy (decided by the Strategic Headquarters for the Promotion of an Advanced Information and Telecommunications Network Society on July 4, 2012).”
 

2.Establishment of the “Open Data Promotion Consortium”

  On July 27, 2012, the “Open Data Promotion Consortium” was established as a base for joint activities made by academic, industrial and governmental entities by eight founders (Representative of founders: Hiroshi Komiyama, Chairman of the Institute, Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc.) who are experts with detailed knowledge of ICT and social systems for the purpose of improving an environment where open data trading is promoted from various aspects such as technical and systemic aspects.
  The MIC will promote the “open data strategy” in collaboration with the “Open Data Promotion Consortium.”

  Establishment of the “Consortium for Promotion of Open Data Trading”
Promotion of social, regional and industrial revitalization by realizing open use and utilization of public information, etc.
