Appeal for Opinions on Draft Institutional Improvement for Introduction of Inmarsat BGAN Radio Equipment Carried by Aircraft

1.Background

  As for the Inmarsat BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) system of Inmarsat portable mobile earth stations, services for mobile terminals, automobiles and ships are currently provided in Japan.
  In order to provide the service of Inmarsat BGAN radio equipment carried by aircraft (name of service provided by Inmarsat PLC (UK): “SwitfBroadband”) that enables passengers to connect to the Internet in the aircraft in Japan, the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment, a related notice, etc. will be partially revised.

  a. Draft Ministerial Ordinance for Partial Revision of the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment
  b. Draft Notice for Partial Revision of the Notice of MIC No.1226 of 2005
  c. Draft Official Directive for Partial Revision of the Examination Standards related to the Radio Act

  (2) Deadline for appeal for opinions
  September 3 (Mon), 2012, 5:00PM (submissions by mail must also arrive by this date)
  The content of the opinions submitted will be posted in the column of “press release” on the MIC website (http://www.soumu.go.jp) and the column of “public comments” on the e-government portal (e-Gov) (http://www.e-gov.go.jp) and also distributed at counters of contact.
