Appeal for opinions on draft ministerial ordinance, etc. for partial revision of the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has complied a draft partial revision, etc. of the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment for the introduction of Inmarsat BGAN radio equipment carried by aircraft.
An appeal for opinions on this draft revision will be held from August 4 (Sat) to September 3 (Mon), 2012.
1.Background
As for the Inmarsat BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) system of Inmarsat portable mobile earth stations, services for mobile terminals, automobiles and ships are currently provided in Japan.
In order to provide the service of Inmarsat BGAN radio equipment carried by aircraft (name of service provided by Inmarsat PLC (UK): “SwitfBroadband”) that enables passengers to connect to the Internet in the aircraft in Japan, the Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment, a related notice, etc. will be partially revised.

September 3 (Mon), 2012, 5:00PM (submissions by mail must also arrive by this date)
The content of the opinions submitted will be posted in the column of “press release” on the MIC website (http://www.soumu.go.jp) and the column of “public comments” on the e-government portal (e-Gov) (http://www.e-gov.go.jp) and also distributed at counters of contact.
