Results of Ninth APEC Ministerial Meeting on Telecommunications and Information Industry
The Ninth APEC Ministerial Meeting on the Telecommunications and Information Industry (TELMIN9) was held in St. Petersburg, Russia under the theme “Building Confidence and Security in the Use of ICT to Promote Economic Growth and Prosperity.”
Kimiaki Matsuzaki, the State Secretary for Internal Affairs and Communications, attended the ministerial meeting from Japan and delivered a speech, and then, exchanged opinions on ICT policies with government officials of the APEC member countries and regions.

The Ministerial Meeting was held in Russia (St. Petersburg) from August 7 (Tue) to August 8 (Wed), 2012.
*The TELMIN8 was held in Okinawa, Japan, in October 2010.

Government officials of the APEC member countries and regions such as ministers responsible for the telecommunications and information industries attended the Ministerial Meeting.
3.Outline of results of the Ministerial Meeting
Under the theme of this Ministerial Meeting on the Telecommunications and Information Industry, “Building Confidence and Security in the Use of ICT to Promote Economic Growth and Prosperity,” the participants shared recognition that the telecommunications and information industries are an important factor in socioeconomic activities and lead the socio-economy to new growth. The measures to be taken in the future have been compiled into “Saint Petersburg Declaration” from the following view point.

(2) Enhancing Socio-Economic Activities through the Use of ICT
(3) Promoting Safe and Trusted ICT Environment
(4) Promoting Regional Economic Intergration
(5) Strengthening Cooperation in the ICT sector

4.Bilateral talks
On this occasion, Japan had the bilateral talks with each of five countries including Russian Minister for Communication and Media Nikiforov and Thai Minister for Information and Communication Technology Anudith Nakornthap, and representatives from the Republic of Korea, China and Vietnam to discuss future cooperative measures in the information and communication fields.
