urvey on Differences of Charges for Telecommunications Services between Domestic and Overseas Markets
FY2011 survey results
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) conducts the survey on differences of charges for telecommunications services between domestic and overseas markets every fiscal year for the purpose of appropriately grasping the state of charges for telecommunications services.
The FY2011 survey results have now been compiled and they are officially announced herein.
1.Subjects of survey
The survey on each service for such as broadband, landline phone, mobile phone, etc. in seven cities (Tokyo, New York, London, Paris, Dusseldorf, Stockholm and Seoul) was conducted (comparisons were made using exchange rates and purchasing power parity as of the end of December 2011).
2.Time of survey
In principle, comparisons were made on charges as of the end of December 2011. However, in the case where the latest information on revision of rate after that has been obtained, the latest charges are reflected.
3.Results of survey
With regard to charges for telecommunications services, each country has various systems for rate-making such as that for differentiating reduced rate from regular rate. In addition, it is necessary to bear in mind that required charges may be different depending on mode of use, there may be a regional divide in the same country, and the rate-making is significantly affected by exchange rate fluctuations. Therefore, it is appropriate to consider these survey results as one index of rate-making.
