Launch of Information Security Portal Site “Introduction to Security”

The National Police Agency (NPA), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) have held the “Committee Meeting Collecting Government and Private Sector Opinions on Measures Preventing Unauthorized Access” (Public-Private Board) since June 2011. The Public-Private Board has now launched a portal site consolidating information on information security with a view to enhancing the Internet-user-friendliness.

1.Outline

  The NPA, the MIC and the METI have held the “Committee Meeting Collecting Government and Private Sector Opinions on Preventive Measures against Unauthorized Access” (Public-Private Board) in collaboration with private business operators, etc. since June 2011. The Public-Private Board has compiled the “Action Plan for Preventive Measures against Unauthorized Access” in December 2011 and made efforts based on it. As a part of those efforts, the Public-Private Board now launches a portal site consolidating information on information security named “Introduction to Security” (http://www.ipa.go.jp/security/kokokara/) to enhance the Internet-user-friendliness.
 

2.Characteristics of portal site

  1. Contents are posted by theme such as “When you underwent damage from unauthorized access,” “How to take preventive measures” and “Education and learning” so that users can easily access necessary information.
  2. Consideration is given to users who are not familiarized with information security by the use of movie contents and illustrations.
  3. On the top page, contents focusing mainly on new information are posted for each threat to information security such as “virus (malware),”“unauthorized access,” “targeted attack”, etc.
  4. Countermeasures are posted for each case when users suffer damage from any cybercrime.
  5. Educational and learning contents are posted for each target such as “for junior high school and high school students,” “for small-and-medium-sized businesses,” etc.
  6. The latest statistical data, etc. publicized by related ministries and agencies, organizations and business operators related to information security is posted.

4.Future plans

  Contents will be further enhanced by continuously posting the latest information.
