“Strategic International Collaborative R&D Promotion Project”

Public appeal for theses of R&D for the next fiscal year
  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will hold a public appeal for theses of R&D on information security, optical communications and radio communications that will be newly commenced from FY2013 under the “Strategic International Collaborative R&D Promotion Project” in cooperation with the European Commission as follows, and it is officially announced herein.

1.Outline

  The Strategic International Collaborative R&D Promotion Project is a project under which the MIC entrusts Japanese research institutions jointly implementing R&D with overseas research institutions, for the purpose of accelerating international standardization and practical use of achievements of R&D and contributing to further creation of innovation, strengthening of international competitiveness of Japan, improvement of safety and reliability of the people’s daily lives, society and economy, etc.
  This time, the MIC together with the European Commission, will hold a public appeal for proposals on theses of R&D on “information security,” “optical communications” and “radio communications” implemented jointly with European research institutions.
  The period and costs of R&D are as follows:
  - Period for R&D: Up to three fiscal years from FY2013
  - R&D costs: Up to 100 million yen per thesis in one fiscal year (including indirect costs)
 

2.Period of public appeal for proposals

  From October 2 (Tue) to November 29 (Thu), 2012, 5:00PM
 

3.Application method

  Before making an application, please confirm the guidelines for proposals of R&D theses and the guidelines for preparing written proposals.
  Please make an electric application by entering application information using the Cross-ministerial R&D Management System (e-Rad) (please complete all operations for application on e-Rad by November 29 (Thu), 2012, 5:00PM).
  At the same time as you make an electric application through e-Rad, you need to “submit a written proposal” to MIC. Please send a set of application items including a written proposal, a copy thereof and an electronic media (CD) in which the written proposal is stored, and a set of other necessary documents for proposal (for more detail, see the guidelines for preparing written proposals) to the Strategic International Collaborative R&D Promotion Project Secretariat, R&D Office, Technology Policy Division, Global ICT Strategy Bureau, MIC by hand or mail within the period for public appeal (they must arrive no later than November 29 (Thu), 2012, PM5:00).
  In the case where several institutions plan to jointly submit a written proposal, a representative research institution shall compile a written proposal and submit it to the MIC.
