Response to 2012 ITU World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-12)

Partial Report from the Information and Communications Council
  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council (Acting Chairman: Masao Sakauchi, Director General of the National Institute of Informatics) concerning an inquiry No.2 of April 26, 1993, titled “Response to activities of the International Telecommunication Union - Telecommunication Standardization Sector,” in response to the resolution made by the International Telecommunication Union Committee, Department on Information and Communications Technology, Information and Communications Council (Chairman: Yoichi Suzuki, Professor at Tohoku University) held on November 1, 2012.
 

1.Background

  The International Telecommunication Union - Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) has responsibilities for research on issues of technology, operation and fees and adoption of recommendations thereon, in order to promote standardization of telecommunications on a global scale. Its activities are of extreme importance in terms of assurance of interconnectivity of information and communications services on a global scale and have a strong impact on international competitiveness of Japan.
  The ITU World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-12), a general assembly to make decisions on overall activities of ITU-T, will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from November 20 to November 29, 2012. The WTSA-12 will implement deliberation on the acceptance of draft recommendations, review of research theses for the next research term (2013~2016) and working methods, etc.
 

2.Outline of partial report

  The full text of the outline of the partial report on response to the WTSA-12 will be posted in the MIC website, as soon as preparations are ready.
 

3.Future plans

  The MIC will respond to the WTSA-12 based on this partial report.
