“Study Group on Upgrading of Broadcasting Services” to be held
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will hold “Study Group on Upgrading of Broadcasting Services” in order to respond to changes of environment surrounding communication and broadcasting services and strive to disseminate advanced broadcasting services at an early stage, with a view to deliberating on necessary matters for materializing the dissemination in three fields (“4K/8K (Super Hi-Vision)”, “smart TV” and “cable platform”).
1.Background and purpose
Environments surrounding communication and broadcasting services are changing significantly as seen in a dramatic improvement of transmitting capacities of optical fibers, satellites and other cable/wireless media and CPU processing capacities. As a result, it is becoming easier to realize upgrading of individual services and provision of highly-convenient services by collaboration of communication and broadcasting.
Taking into account these situations, the proposals on three fields (“4K/8K (Super Hi-Vision)”, “smart TV” and “cable platform”) were made from the Information and Communications Council in July 2012, concerning future efforts for communication and broadcasting services. Based on those proposals, the “Study Group on Upgrading of Broadcasting Services” will be held for the purpose of deliberating necessary matters for materializing the efforts.
2.Major points to be deliberated

3. Functions required for cable TV platform, and how to develop them
4. Others

The first meeting will be held on November 12 (Mon), 2012.
