State of Number of Telecommunications Service Subscriptions

As of the end of September 2012
  The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has compiled the number of telecommunications services subscriptions reported by telecommunications carriers as of the end of September 2012 based on the provision of the Rules for Reporting on Telecommunications Business (Ministerial Ordinance of MPT No. 46 of 1988).

  The outline is as follows.
 

1.Subscribed telephones and ISDN

  The total number of telephone and ISDN subscriptions has been on a downward trend and was 34.328 million as of the end of September 2012. This is an 8.9% decrease compared with the same period of the previous year. The total number of telephone and ISDN subscriptions of NTT East and NTT West was 29.903 million and has also been on a downward trend.
 

2.Number of IP phone uses

  The number of IP phone uses was 29.827 million as of the end of September 2012, and it has been on a consecutive upward trend. It marked an increase of 10.3% compared with the same period of the previous year.
  Particularly, the number of uses of 0AB~J-IP phones marked a significant increase of 15.9% compared with the same period of the previous year.
 

3.Mobile phones and PHS

  The total number of mobile phones and PHS subscription was 136.787 million as of the end of September 2012, and this is a steady increase of 7.5% compared with the same period of the previous year. The number of 3.9G mobile phone subscriptions was 7.289 million, accounting for 5.5% of the total number of mobile phone subscriptions.
