The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) held an appeal for opinions on a draft revision of notice, etc. related to the Radio Act for the expansion of use of 5GHz-band wireless access systems from October 11 to November 9, 2012. However, no opinion was submitted.
The MIC will swiftly improve the provisions based on the results of this appeal for opinions.
1.Outline of draft revision
The operational restrictions have been imposed on some service areas of radio stations using 5GHz-band wireless access systems in accordance with the notice of MIC No.91 of 2012 (Subject specifying areas of establishing radio stations using radio waves of frequencies between 4,900MHz and 5,000MHz or 5,030MHz and 5,091MHz) and the Examination Standards related to the Radio Act (Official Directive of MIC No.67 of January 6, 2001) in order to prevent interference with fixed radio stations for telecommunications services using the 5GHz band. However, as the use of fixed radio stations for telecommunications services using the 5GHz band will terminate on November 30, 2012, the revision such as the relaxation of restrictions on radio station service areas using 5GHz-band wireless access systems will be made in order to promote the expansion of use of radio stations using 5GHz-band wireless access systems.
2.Results of the appeal for opinions
The appeal for opinions was held from October 11 to November 9, 2012, in response to which no opinion was submitted.
3.Future plans
The MIC will swiftly improve the provisions based on the results of the appeal for opinions.
