“Open Data Symposium” to be held
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Open Data Promotion Consortium will hold the “Open Data Symposium” on December 10 (Mon), 2012.
1.Outline
The MIC has made efforts for improving an environment where data used in each body or filed in a closed manner can be used effectively in the society (open data flow environment) in collaboration with related ministries and agencies based on the “E-Government Open Data Strategy” (decided by the Headquarters for the Promotion of an Advanced Information and Telecommunications Network Society on July 4, 2012) which is the basic strategy for the promotion of the use of public data.
In addition, the “Open Data Promotion Consortium” (Chairman; Hiroshi Komiyama, Chairman of Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc.) was established on July 27, 2012 as a base for initiatives taken jointly by the government, industry and academia in order to promote infrastructure development toward the realization of open data circulation environment.
The development of open data circulation environment is expected to create new services and businesses by linking valuable data and to facilitate the acquisition of useful information for the public and industries.
In view of these circumstances, the MIC and the Open Data Promotion Consortium will hold the “Open Data Symposium (Will open data change the society? -What we need to do now-),” with a view to making the public know the significance and possibility of open data and seeking dissemination of and awareness raising on initiatives of open data.
